Dr Amy’s Spring Essentials
In running The London Clinic, as a Dental Surgeon specialising in facial aesthetics and cosmetics, and as a skincare enthusiast, I am always keeping my eye out for new, fabulous innovations in skincare. These are my recommendations for the must-have products, for keeping your skin looking healthy, glowing and smooth for Spring!
With the weather warming up and the summery dresses being dug out of the closet, it is time to say goodbye to the stockings, and hello to beautifully soft, shiny legs. Body Spa Exfoliating Body Scrub is perfect for preparing the skin for moisturising, after shaving or waxing. It can also be used to exfoliate arms to help with any red bumps or texture issues that you may have. It is also ideal to prepare the skin for self-tanning or salon spay tans.
Sunscreen is the new black, ladies! Skin specialists and beauty gurus worldwide are starting to realise the incredible long term benefits of wearing sunscreen every day, and I cannot recommend it enough. With SPF 50 (about as high as it gets!) infused into a lightweight moisturiser, Image MD Skincare’s Daily Defence Moisturiser is perfect for applying as a light layer underneath your makeup. This product is a must-have for protecting your skin after any cosmetic procedure, and keeping it looking fresh and young. My personal favourite SPF with my own person tip – combine your MD Daily Defence Moisturiser with your favourite Foundation (I use I Conceal by Image Skincare) for that perfect every natural glow. PS this product smells amazing!!!
As the first step in your skincare ritual, cleansing your face is extremely important. It creates a clean, blank canvas so that your skincare products can do their important work. After all, there is no point in using expensive skincare serums and moisturisers if they are just sitting on top of the skin because you haven’t cleansed properly. Image Skincare’s Ageless Total Facial Cleanser uses glycolic acid to gently remove any build-up (whether due to make-up or dead skin) from your skin and pores. As a cosmetic injector, I know how extremely important it is to have a high-quality cleanser to care for your skin especially if you have cosmetic treatments. A great cleanser ensures your skin stays fresh and healthy after any cosmetic procedures.
One of the biggest problems we see in the cosmetic industry is that of dry skin. People will often know they have a problem to fix when their skin is oily, but dry skin can go unnoticed until it becomes physically flaky. Never let your skin get to that point, as it can be hard to come back from. Also, as it gets warmer, the use of air conditioners can really dry out your skin. I recommend using the deluxe Vital C Hydrating Facial Oil as a staple within your skincare routine. Use this product after cleansing, and the skin will thirstily absorb this oil, giving significant moisture retention, leaving your skin bouncy and soft. The results from this oil, are definitely worth the investment, as a little goes a long way.
It is important to finish off your skincare routine with a moisturiser that is perfect for you. The reason that I love the Image Skincare Clear Cell Mattifying Moisturiser is that it is self-adjusting. It gives your skin the moisture it needs, but only in the places that it needs it. It absorbs the natural oils in places that make your skin look shiny, and hydrates in dry areas. This is an excellent, rare feature amongst moisturisers at this price point. Therefore, if you are mixed in your skin concerns, or not exactly sure what you need to perfect your skin, this product is ideal. Also, it gives a lovely matte finish to the skin, reducing any signs of irritation that may arise after a visit to the cosmetic clinic. Overall, it’s a great nightly moisturiser to top off your skincare ritual.
